Samsung is set to release the Galaxy W27 in China on October 29, according to a report from leaker Ice Universe. The date marks the final foldable launch for the South Korean company in 2026 if the schedule holds. Ice Universe shared an image of the device, which displays a glossy blue back panel with gold accents surrounding the triple-camera module.

The Galaxy W27 continues a yearly practice where Samsung releases a specialized foldable variant exclusively for the Chinese market. These models typically include distinct styling and elaborate packaging. In most years, the W series has been a rebranded version of Samsung's top-tier foldable for that specific calendar year.

There was one deviation from this pattern in 2024. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition received a wider global release. That move served as a precursor to the significant hardware changes introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

For 2026, the Galaxy W27 is built on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The specifications and design align with that top model rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. This choice is notable because the standard Z Fold 8 features a new shape that has resonated with customers, while the Ultra represents the larger, wide-format form factor.

Wide-format foldables are gaining traction in China. Xiaomi's latest foldable shares a similar form factor, and Huawei has released wide foldables for a longer period than any other manufacturer. Samsung has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a commercial success and that the introduction of the iPhone Duo has increased attention on its own foldable lineup.

Analysts predict that foldable display shipments will rise by 44% in 2026 as these wide models enter the market. Samsung has also updated several Galaxy devices to Android 17 in recent weeks.

While Samsung has several new foldables planned for next year, the W27 will be the last model of the current generation to reach the market.
