Dallas Stars fans left American Airlines Center with a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, but the win required an overtime finish. The result came after the home team outshot the visitors 38-19 in regulation, a statistical lead that did not translate into a comfortable margin. Instead, the game hinged on a single defensive stop and a subsequent breakaway goal scored by Roope Hintz at 3:47 of the extra period.

The deciding sequence began when Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg scoring chance. Miro Heiskanen immediately converted that stop into an offensive opportunity with a pass that sent Hintz in alone. Hintz finished the play to secure the win. The shift in momentum relied on a shared defensive effort, as Robertson initially turned the puck over, creating the Winnipeg chance he later stopped.

The workload on Dallas defenders was heavy due to the absence of Esa Lindell, who was scratched from the lineup. Heiskanen played 29:20, while Thomas Harley logged 28:27. The next most-used defender, Lian Bichsel, played 17:47. Other minutes were distributed among Nils Lundkvist, Tyler Myers, and Kyle Capobianco. These totals indicate that the team relied heavily on its two top defensemen for extended stretches of the game.

Winnipeg controlled the score for much of the contest. John Johnston scored early in the second period to open the scoring. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor later added goals to put Winnipeg ahead. Dallas remained behind until Hintz scored a six-on-five equalizer with two minutes remaining in regulation, setting the stage for the overtime finish.

Goalie Connor Hellebuyck did not play, as the source notes Skinner made 35 saves. The high save count forced the Stars to work for every goal despite their shooting dominance. The defense limited Winnipeg's chances but could not guarantee conversion at the other end.

Heiskanen finished the night with five shots, one block, and the winning assist. Harley did not record a goal. Neither defenseman required a score for their defensive minutes to impact the final result. The team won with a single finish after a period of sustained pressure.

The absence of Lindell did not establish a permanent change in the defensive rotation. The game provided no return date or revised pairing structure. The Stars completed the assignment for the night, relying on their top defenders to carry the load through the final minutes.
