Apple will distribute iOS 27.2 to iPhone users next week. This release follows iOS 27.1, which was limited to the iPhone Duo. The new software introduces three primary changes to how users handle video calls, audio content, and television viewing.

The company introduced Dual Capture in iOS 27, allowing compatible iPhones to display front and rear camera feeds simultaneously. Previously, this functioned only during one-on-one FaceTime calls. Users could tap the Flip button to activate the rear camera while keeping the front camera active. iOS 27.2 extends this capability to Group FaceTime calls.

Apple also restructured the Apple Podcasts application. The Up Next queue at the top of the Home tab is being divided into two distinct sections. The first section, labeled New Episodes, replaces the old Up Next list and displays the latest releases from followed shows. Directly below it, a new section called Continue Playing lists shows that a listener has started but not finished. A writer for 9to5Mac, who previously described the old Up Next queue as cluttered and confusing, called the new layout a big improvement after testing the beta. The writer noted that the change helps users keep better track of their listening habits.

The third major change brings user profiles to the Apple TV app on iPhone. While profiles have existed on tvOS devices, this marks their first arrival on iOS. Upon opening the TV app after the update, users will encounter a profile selection screen. This screen can be turned off to prevent it from appearing on subsequent launches. Once a profile is active, the app adjusts its content recommendations to match that specific viewer. When a child's profile is selected, the app displays only age-appropriate series and movies from Apple. This setup keeps an adult's viewing queue uncluttered and prevents children from encountering unsuitable material on a parent's device.

The software update includes additional features across six iPhone apps in total. Apple has scheduled the release for the coming week, making it the broader update following the limited iOS 27.1 rollout.
