Subscribers in the United States can now hear Formula 1 broadcasts in Dolby Atmos. The audio upgrade began on Friday, October 23, for the United States Grand Prix weekend.

Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the partnership earlier this month. They stated that Formula 1 coverage on Apple TV would gain Dolby Atmos support starting with this Grand Prix. This makes the Austin race the first Formula 1 event ever broadcast in this format.

Apple describes the new audio as a way to place viewers in the center of race weekend activities. The system captures team radio, commentary, and engine sounds. It also includes the noise of on-track battles and the pit lane. Apple pairs this audio with Dolby Vision to provide high clarity and color depth.

The first practice session has already concluded. Subscribers can watch the remaining sessions this week. Practice 2 starts at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, October 23. Practice 3 begins at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 24. Qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET that same day. The main race occurs on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.

Apple is hosting a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The store also hosted CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday for the iPhone Duo launch.

Apple Maps now includes a detailed view of the Circuit of The Americas. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin to support the event. The map features turn numbers, grandstands, and 3D landmarks to help visitors navigate the venue.

The Apple TV service costs $14.99 per month. Users can also access it through the Apple One bundle. The platform streams series such as Ted Lasso, Severance, and Silo alongside the race coverage.
