Fitzys Loganholme hosts fight night as four wounded in drive-by shooting

Four individuals were transported to hospital after a vehicle fired shots outside a boxing venue in Loganholme, Queensland, on Saturday evening. Queensland Police reported that officers arrived at the licensed premises on Bryants Road at 8:15 p.m. following reports of gunfire from a car. The vehicle was observed leaving the area, and the four injured persons are currently undergoing medical assessments.

The venue, Fitzys Loganholme, was scheduled to host the Logan City Titles Fight Night. Deputy Commander Chris Stream of the Queensland Police Force described the scene as confronting. He told the Today show that several people sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. The suspects remain at large, and police have not indicated an ongoing threat to the public.

Jon Raven, the mayor of Logan, stated that residents in the area are frightened by the event. He told the Today show that the incident has sent a shockwave through the region, noting that such a shooting had not previously occurred in Logan. Raven said his thoughts were with the victims, staff, and attendees. He had attended similar events in the past and described them as family-friendly, with many children present.

Raven commented that the experience would impact the children involved for the rest of their lives. He explained that the night was organized to help steer young people away from violence. The organizer, according to Raven, uses boxing to empower and reconnect youth who might be struggling. Raven said the organizer would be devastated because the event was intended to be the opposite of what happened.

Logan City Titles issued a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The organizers said they were heartbroken about the incident. They described the event as a community gathering that showcased local talent and hard work. The statement added that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the wider community.

Police are appealing to the public for information about the shooting. They are urging anyone with details to come forward and contact them. The investigation is ongoing as officers work to identify the vehicle and the individuals responsible for the drive-by.
