A BYD sedan priced around 2 million yuan, or roughly $300,000, is set to launch in the United Arab Emirates before it reaches China. Yangwang general manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed the global debut location this week. No specific launch date has been announced, though the company expects the official debut this month.
The model would be BYD's largest and most luxurious electric sedan. Its proportions draw comparisons to the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Maybach S-Class, and local reports put its length at about 5,500 mm, or 216 inches. BYD has not confirmed pricing; the 2 million yuan figure is a rumor. For scale, Yangwang's current U7 sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000, and the U8L, its highest-priced mass-produced vehicle, starts at 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000.
Hu released images of the car under testing last month, with the body disguised. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, said it will carry "unprecedented disruptive technology" but did not describe it. The sedan appeared at BYD's Flash Charging station, which suggests support for megawatt flash charging. It also carries rear-hinged coach doors, a first for BYD.
Yangwang sits at the top of BYD's brand structure, alongside Denza and FangChengBao, with the Dynasty and Ocean families under the BYD name. Earlier Yangwang vehicles used the quad-motor e4 platform rated at 1,300 horsepower and the DiSus-X body control system. BYD sells vehicles from the Seagull, a hatchback priced below $10,000 in China, to three-row flagship SUVs, pickup trucks and electric supercars.
Executive vice president Stella Li told Carwow.es last month that BYD's first solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027. The new sedan is reportedly the first model to use those batteries.
The launch in the UAE places BYD's top-tier sedan in a market served by Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach, marques the company is targeting with this model.
